Sashiko, which means 'little stabs' in Japanese, is a form of decorative reinforcement stitching that originated in Japan during the Edo era. Traditionally, it was used to reinforce points of wear or to repair worn places or tears with patches. Sashiko stitching beautifully melds aesthetic appeal with practical functionality.
In this small, intimate class setting, you will learn hand-sewing in the Sashiko way and explore unique appliqué techniques. By the end of the workshop, you will not only possess efficient hand-sewing and mending skills but also have a deep appreciation for the artistry and historical significance of this ancient Japanese sewing technique.
