Sashiko for Visible Mending
Sashiko, which means 'little stabs' in Japanese, is a form of decorative reinforcement stitching that originated in Japan during the Edo era. Traditionally, it was used to reinforce points of wear or to repair worn places or tears with patches. Sashiko stitching beautifully melds aesthetic appeal with practical functionality.
In this small, intimate class setting, you will learn hand-sewing in the Sashiko way and explore unique appliquΓ© techniques. By the end of the workshop, you will not only possess efficient hand-sewing and mending skills but also have a deep appreciation for the artistry and historical significance of this ancient Japanese sewing technique. No sewing machine is requiredβmend your well-loved garments by hand!

Bring Along (Optional):
Participants are welcome to bring an item of non-stretchable cotton or linen clothing or textiles for personalized guidance on repair or embellishment. However, this is not mandatory.
